Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the ZT231 and ZT111?
Both are 4-inch industrial printers. The ZT231 prints faster (12 in/s at 203 dpi versus 10 in/s), has a metal enclosure, a 4.3 in color touch screen, a real-time clock and an optional liner take-up peeler or RFID kit.
What label sizes fit?
Media from 0.75 to 4.50 in wide, printed up to 4.09 in wide at 300 dpi, with labels as long as 73 in. Common sizes include 4 x 6, 4 x 4 and 4 x 2 in.
What roll and core sizes fit?
Rolls up to 8 in outer diameter on 3 in cores, or 6 in on 1 in cores. That means far fewer roll changes than a desktop printer.
What ribbons does it take?
Ribbons up to 1,476 ft (450 m) long on 1 in cores, 2 to 4.33 in wide.
What connectivity does it have?
USB 2.0, RS-232 Serial, 10/100 Ethernet, USB Host and Bluetooth Low Energy come standard. An 802.11ac Wi-Fi card and a second Ethernet card are field-installable.
Which programming languages does it support?
ZPL and ZPL II, compatible with all Zebra printers, plus optional ZBI 2.0. EPL runs on 203 dpi models only.
What warranty does it have?
Zebra warrants the ZT231 against defects in workmanship and materials for 1 year from shipment. Zebra OneCare plans extend coverage to 3 years and can add accidental damage.
What print resolutions does the Zebra ZT231 come in?
The Zebra ZT231 comes in 203 dpi and 300 dpi. This page lists the 300 dpi models. See Zebra ZT231 — 203 dpi Models.
Should I choose 203 dpi or 300 dpi?
203 dpi (8 dots/mm) is the standard for shipping labels, barcodes and most product labels. 300 dpi (12 dots/mm) prints sharper small text, small barcodes, 2D codes and logos, so it suits small labels such as electronics, healthcare and jewelry labels. 600 dpi (24 dots/mm) is for very small, high-detail labels.
